Pack 734 is a fun, active Cub Scout pack run by volunteers that serves girls and boys from Kindergarten to 5th Grade.
What is Involved?!
We have Pack Meetings (where all Cub Scouts in our Pack and their families are invited to participate) and Den Meetings (which are small groups of kids of the same grade). Cub Scouts participate in Pack and Den meetings to have fun and learn in line with the Scout Law. Through participating and meeting requirements, Cubs complete requirements towards earning their grade level rank.
Pack Meetings
Pack Meetings are held about once a month from September to May at a local elementary school and are generally 60-90 minutes in length. One parent is required to accompany each Scout. The entire family is invited and encouraged to attend Pack Meetings. While the Cubmaster runs the meetings, other Pack Officers, Den Leaders, and parents are also involved in the planning and running of these meetings.
Each Pack Meeting either has a theme or a particular function associated with them. Historically, the following events occur at one of our Pack Meetings — Pumpkin carving contest in October, Veteran celebration in November, Pinewood Derby in January, and Blue & Gold celebration in March. Themes and guests for other meetings vary as we try to keep things fresh and introduce new ideas.
The typical Pack meeting agenda is as follows:
Unstructured arrival game
Opening Flag Ceremony
Pledge of Allegiance
Scout Oath
Scout Law
Cubmaster Minute (focused on an attribute of the Scout Law)
Den Reports
Special Event (if any)
Closing Flag Ceremony
Den Meetings
Den meetings are organized monthly with a group of Scouts from your child’s grade. Den meetings are fun activities like hiking, learning about science or nature, creating something and playing games. Dens typically are made up of 6-10 Scouts led by a volunteer Den Leader who is usually the parent of one of the Scouts. Keeping with two-deep leadership, there is also an Assistant Den Leader, and all parents/guardians are expected to volunteer to help the Pack, their Den, and their child, in line with the Scout Law.
I’m Interested, What’s Next!
Typically new Scouts join in August – September. If you are within this time frame, we are happy to have you! You may join an existing Den if there is room, otherwise you may start a new Den. New Dens require someone — maybe you — to volunteer as a Den Leader. But, don’t worry! We have GREAT active volunteers that will help you with this rewarding role. If you are outside this time frame, please still reach out. Sometimes we can extend registration through October/November.
